Learn how to define your niche and clientele base to ultimately help drive more business as a videographer.

Defining my niche was the best thing I did for my business. As a creative, having a niche might seem restrictive and unappealing.

I certainly used to think so.

But defining my niche as a videographer has been one of the best things I did when I went freelance.

My niche as a videographer 'luxury filmmaking' featured clearly on my website as a female videographer

Not only do I get to work in industries that I genuinely love, feel passionate about and want to help, it’s streamlined so many areas of my business.

To define my niche, I did these things:

  • Branded my company towards my target market

  • Designed a website that would appeal to my target market

  • Post content they can relate to

  • Refine my services and learn how I can help them most

But how do you decide your niche as a videographer?

I thought about:

  • What do I enjoy doing most?

  • Who do I like working with?

  • What am I best at?

  • What industries do I want to work with?

Remember, your niche doesn't have to be something you've got a lot of experience in. If you target it correctly, you can enter any industry with the right approach. Make sure you do your research to make sure you understand their needs/wants or any gaps in the market for you as a videographer.

The result?

Most of my work has come from the very industries I want to work with.

I feel excited about every project.

And the best part is, the work I do only furthers my ambitions. I am constantly adding to my portfolio to target MORE clients I want to work with.

I ensured my website and socials feature words and phrases like 'premium video services, luxury videography' whilst my brand reflects those very things.

Define your niche, think about where your passions lie and ensure you’re really not restricting yourself. Word it carefully, be smart but be focussed.
